Pros

1. The idea of Splice as a product is romantic and sounds amazing. 2. There are some innovative tech advancements happening in a (siloed) part of the company which seem interesting 3. It’s “nice” to be surrounded mostly by people who are passionate about music. 4. The company values are continuously part of everyday conversations.

Cons

1. There has been no market fit and no overarching business strategy for years, and this results in frequent pivots, mismatched goals across areas, and an inability to plan ahead, which constantly bites you in the a. 2. Leadership do not practice transparency and even go so far as to mislead their people. They would not discuss concerns until it was practically too late and mass layoffs were afoot. 3. Tons of favoritism from leadership. You can see where connections trump experience in which opportunities are given to whom. 4. Severely understaffed product department leading to PMs being spread way too thin and unable to dedicate attention to anything. 5. Leadership will literally change your reports without telling you (as an EM) or your teams 6. Lip service given to DEI while sexism still prevails; ideas may be floated by non men and only listened to or given credence when proposed by men. Red flag after red flag after red flag. If you talk to people there before joining, you will probably realize that working there is a mistake. When I joined I told a colleague that I knew someone who worked there previously. Their response: “and you still decided to join?” I guess it seemed like a joke at the time but the truth is that if you care about quality of life, having any degree of focus or purpose, or having any possibility for growth in your job, avoid splice like the plague.

Pros

Co-workers are largely very chill people and good to work with.

Cons

Where to start? The management in this company is shockingly incompetent. There is a trend towards dishonesty and gaslighting. You will probably be a worse engineer for the time you spend here because things are done the wrong way across the board. Tenure here is pretty poor as people leave frequently or are laid off as there are significant "restructures" every two or three months so everybody is constantly scared of losing their jobs. Diversity initiatives are pure lip-service as gender and ethnic minorities are first to be cut and last to be promoted.
