Pros

Good opportunity for college grads as their first job

Cons

The Presidents, there are two, are extremely unprofessional and never wrong. Their old school mentality will prevent them from growing and developing as an organization. They believe that in order to be dedicated and successful you need to sacrifice everything. Coming in early and staying late is their idea of what professionalism is. To the outside world that is completely unsustainable and unhealthy, but this is expectation for them. They won’t take anyone’s ideas into consideration. If they do listen to someone else, they will ultimately take credit for it if successful. If you are considering a management position there, just know what you are getting yourself into. The Presidents will be manipulative and make you question your integrity. They will not invest in their employees, although it may appear that way on social media. The marketing team does a great job of appealing to millennials who want a cool work culture. Training and development is not supported here so growth is not possible. You can move into other roles which is great for your resume, but ultimately you will not want to stay long term.

Spot Response

Since inception in 2009, Spot has grown from a $10M company to nearly $300M at the end of this year under the direction of our two Presidents. We wouldn’t have experienced the success we’ve seen today with an unprofessional, manipulative leadership team as described above. Our work environment, and the logistics industry as a whole, is extremely fast-paced and from time to time, does require after hours work. However, we make that very clear during our hiring process so prospective employees have clear expectations on what is expected of them in their particular role. In addition, we have a three-month training program specifically for our Account Managers, which includes working with a mentor to better understand the business. Our goal is to set our Account Managers up for success so they can develop their skills throughout their career at Spot. Our Presidents also have weekly meetings with their direct reports because providing feedback to improve our departments is encouraged.
