Pros

-Incredible vision and mission: a society where everyone can live a life of meaning through mutual benefit. -Flexible work environment, with an emphasis on team work and in-person collaboration. -The ability to end the workday feeling proud of what you've accomplished. -Kind, caring, respectful coworkers. -Emphasis on personal and professional development and growth, not feeling stagnant in a role. -Benefits, salary, and other resources are very competitive, not just among other nonprofits but the market in general.

Cons

If someone is a black and white thinker or wants to be told exactly how to do something, that isn't how Stand Together operates and therefore that could be difficult for someone to navigate or succeed if that isn't their preference. The culture is driven by principled entrepreneurship and creative destruction - if that does not resonate with someone and/or is intimidating, the culture might be a challenge.

Toxic Culture Disguised as Innovation

Pros

Decent benefits. Some talented and passionate colleagues (though most don’t stay long). Interesting projects—on paper.

Cons

Leadership is a mess. There is an overwhelming culture of micromanagement, indecisiveness, and power plays. Decisions are made based on internal politics rather than logic, strategy, or expertise. If you enjoy constant shifting priorities, vague directives, and leadership that contradicts itself weekly, this is the place for you. High turnover. Many great employees leave (or are pushed out) because competence is undervalued, and compliance is king. Expect to see talented people disappear without explanation while mediocrity thrives. Zero trust in employees. Despite all the talk of ‘empowerment’ and ‘bottom-up innovation,’ the reality is that everything must be approved by layers of out-of-touch leadership who stall progress, override experts, and second-guess their own decisions. Burnout is inevitable. Unreasonable expectations, constant last-minute changes, and a culture of excessive revision and bureaucratic nonsense make it impossible to ever feel like you’re doing a good job. Culture issues. While the organization pretends to value diversity of thought, in reality, only one perspective is truly welcome. Employees who challenge leadership—even constructively—quickly learn that the ‘culture of dialogue’ doesn’t apply when the conversation is uncomfortable for those at the top. STAY AWAY

Pros

The practice of Principle Based Management makes working at Stand Together like nowhere else. No drama, office politics, etc.

Cons

The organization is growing quite quickly, which is a good sign for the future, but which can make it hard to keep up with everything sometimes.
