Pros

Staples has great people who are always looking to joke around and make the best out of the day. Managers are very understanding with personal issues, and work well with your schedule. Sometimes someone will bring in coffee or pizza or something for the staff, which is definitely appreciated. They have a decent discount for employees, as well as a computer buying program and benefits available after 3 months. There is room to grow within the company, and many staff move on to management (perhaps why they are more understanding). There is quite a bit of learning available for staff, with computer modules that can be completed at home for extra money, or at work if you are able.

Cons

Some customers are very rude, and probably the worst thing about working at Staples. This is probably the case at any store, however. Staples does not the greatest pay, although it is better than some other places. They say you get a raise every 3 months, but you have to push for these, and it is a very small amount. On slow days, it is tough to keep yourself busy sometimes and boredom ensues. Other days you are run off your feet. There is sometimes confusion between staff and management about what needs to be done, or when breaks are.

Pros

They do BackCheck so it shows you're a clean, law abiding citizen. Customer Service is priority, so it's for people persons. 10% off electronics, 15% off office supplies.

Cons

Min wage but expected to do a lot other than sell warranties - stocking, janitorial, cash register, etc. Associates from different depts. frequently cross over to help out other depts. Takes really long to get stock from the warehouse to customers compared to Best Buy where associates just walk in and out with your item within 2 mins average. DO NOT MAKE STUPID MISTAKES [you will] after your 5th shift because your training technically ends there and because they will pull an "Eagle Eye" on you for weeks if you do. The real 'challenge' for office supp. and tech associates is to do stock and price changes while serving customers. Have fun trying to balance that out.

Pros

Some good reasons for working at STAPLES (Business Depot) are that you can learn many skills for the future. Many people that end up getting hired for one position end up being able to work/cover several sections/depts. after about a year of work. The management at STAPLES is a good team to work with, being neither too strict or lax on managing workers. There is many values to be learned including the way employees are to serve customers, notably the motto EASY, which means Evaluate, Asses, Satisfy, and Yes. Finally STAPLES offers a great benefits package including Health, RRSP, and Employee Stock Purchase plan

Cons

Overall compensation is not as great as with other employers, including compensation for employees who show very effective progress. It is up to the District Manager to decide whether an employee shall get a review every 6 months, and very, very rarely are employees - even ones who show exceptional performance according to STAPLES standard - rewarded with a raise of more than 20 cents per 6 months
