Pros

Starbucks is the kind of place where you truly get to take a pulse of the community. The 'salt of the earth' enter Starbucks every day, and I meet them. I really do get to form connections, though not very deep ones, and understand what my community feels, thinks, and well, drinks, every day. There's something very cool about that. Starbucks, at least at my level, is not the kind of job you gnaw on your knuckles about while lying in bed at night. You do your job, you go home and do your life. For those who are new to the workplace, this is an easy environment to learn how to succeed in a workplace. The steps are simple, the trainings easy, and your fellow partners generally congenial and upbeat. This is a great part time job.

Cons

Communications from management is disparate, scattered, inconsistent, and often, incorrect. Advancement is often inconsistent and biased, though hard work is eventually noticed. It took me a whole year of hard and diligent work to move from barista to shift supervisor. The biggest downside to working at Starbucks is it's suppression of new ideas. Starbucks has a very prescribed and regimented way of doing almost everything. New efficiencies and ideas are almost universally discouraged at the store level.

Pros

I would have to say that it was fun to work.

Cons

There were lot of instances where I had to deal with rude customers all the time.
