Pros

This organization at the time I was there had a strong traditional media background and had been developing their digital side of the business further. They had a nice team and many legacy newspapers that served the Birmingham area and surrounding communities.

Cons

The greatest challenge there, is not really about the company itself. Covid really impacted all businesses during my time there. I was there during the time the office could not be open to public and moved on to another role shortly after.

Pros

They have a well oiled machine on the publishing side, but digital side was still growing when I worked there. I’m sure things have improved since my time there, hopefully.

Cons

I worked for the Starnes Digital team and having come from a previous digital agency, it was very apparent they were not experienced in making professional websites.

Pros

Amazing, talented writers to work alongside

Cons

If you're looking to start your career in journalism, I recommend skipping Starnes. You could throw a stick and hit a company that will respect and pay you much more. The stress that the job will put on you is not worth it. If you want to feel valued... you're better off elsewhere.
