Change impacts employee morale...

Pros

Stable company with great benefits and auto growth incentive. Friendly co-workers & opportunities to relocate and grow. Continuing education is encouraged and compensated for. The recent time off changes will weed out the employees milking the sick time and permission leaves.

Cons

Implemented a massive overhaul of claims reporting and claim processes that do not appear to be making a healthy impact on claims/customers. Company has taken a hard stance on metrics and #s and appears to have left "quality" in the rear view mirror. There is no "process" for claims reporting, thus anyone can report a claim without names/policy #, creating further delays. Requesting and granting of time off has become exhausting and frustrating. Employees are asked to request time off nearly 6 months in advance. Daily time off requests are subject to strict capacity that the Company has never clearly laid out. If you want a Friday off you're looking at least a month ahead, possibly more. Work life balance is not as employee friendly as it used to be.

Pros

Most colleagues are good, down to earth, genuine people. Great for networking. There are many opportunities to learn the ins and outs of complex claims.

Cons

Where to start? The State Farm "family" culture is rapidly dying. Morale continues to get worse, as performance is no longer judged by quality of work or quality of service, but metrics instead. Every minute of every activity, every minute of every phone call is measured and if you spend too long trying to assist a policyholder you get in trouble. Your breaks are scheduled for you, your lunch is schedule for you, and you get in trouble if you take too long to use the restroom. Compensation and benefits are below the industry average. Employees are given ridiculous schedules that they aren't allowed to deviate from without being reprimanded or penalized. Paid holidays are gone, mandatory overtime is taking a severe mental toll on employees, consecutive days off are disappearing. On top of the fact that schedules have no flexibility, it's almost impossible to get time off for vacation or personal issues that need to be addressed. Opportunities for advancement are extremely limited. Once you get a certain position, you're pretty much stuck in it for as long as you work at State Farm. Employees of 10 years, 15 years, even 20 years are leaving in droves because the company doesn't value their expertise and would rather hire incompetent, unskilled workers for less pay in order to cut salaries. The numbers will look great for a year or two. However, policyholders will start dropping off left and right and litigation expenses will go through the roof when State Farm starts getting sued left and right for extremely carless handling of claim files. The ship is taking on water at a rapid pace and even more current employees plan on leaving before the ship goes down. State Farm can start patching the leaks now, but short of a miracle, it is beyond salvaging. State Farm will exist in some capacity for years to come, but it will be a mediocre (at best) company with terrible service. The "Good Neighbor", quality driven company that was once State Farm is long gone.

Pros

Pay is livable and benefits are okay.

Cons

Training was terrible and did not prepare you to be on the floor. Consisted of mostly modules. Managers are unprofessional never are available to assist you with claims. They rarely show up to work. You are highly micromanaged and all your performance reviews are public knowledge. The amount of work you do is put on display and actively compared to your co-workers. Very toxic environment. They use vernit system to set your work schedule for the day. It constantly changes and you are graded on how well you follow a ever changing work schedule. Mined updated 11 times today alone. You are working in a team claim environment, there is no claim ownership which causes complete chaos for everyone involved. Very frustrating for the customers and claims adjusters because no one ever knows what's going on in claim since a new person looks at every time a customer calls. You have to BID to use your PTO six months in advance. First come first serve. So even though you have PTO you can rarely can use it. Not worth the stress look elsewhere!
