Pros

Retirement and Pension Great products offered to policyholders and no issue with company’s financial stability. Great brand to represent and always focused on being available to customers in their time of need.

Cons

Locations/Hub mobility is a disaster. Management will not consider an amazingly talented employee for a promotion unless they are willing to relocate for the company at any time to one of the three hubs or Bloomington, Ill.

Pros

One of the few companies that still offer a pension and a 401k. Monday to Friday (for me) job with good pay. Health care was great when they offered HMO's.

Cons

Too many to list really but here are a few: PTO and sick days have now been combined. Almost all claims handling by phone instead of in person like they used to stress. Work/life balance is poor. Use of metrics implemented by those who never worked claims. In fact, most claims procedure decisions made by those that never worked claims. Reliance on body shops instead of company estimators, micromanagement, etc, etc.

Pros

It's hard to think of one. I worked here for over a decade in various roles and have watched the company go through a lot of changes. In years past I would have said that they value work-life balance, have flexible working hours, and give employees some autonomy to do their jobs, but recent changes to the company's policies have changed all that. In terms of working at their headquarters in Bloomington, IL, their salary ranges and opportunities for advancement are good. But they do not compete in larger cities where they have opened up hub offices (e.g., Tempe, Dallas, Atlanta).

Cons

The company is struggling to attract and retain younger talent, due to their outdated business practices and lack of clear long-term direction. They are no longer guided by the values that made them a great employer in the past. High employee disengagement and low morale across the enterprise. They promote the wrong kind of values and incentivize employees for the wrong reasons (directors who were promoted for stealing employee ideas, going behind their employees' backs, and who look for any opportunity to get promoted). They've recently got rid of their WFH and telework policies, and they're centralizing all their operations. Gone are the days of employee flexibility, trust, and autonomy.
