Pros

Decent pay for the amount of work you have to do. Relatively low stress. Great work/life balance. There is a lot of opportunity to move to any department if you're willing to go through training. State Farm uses consultants that help get a lot of work done.

Cons

The corporate headquarters is in Bloomington, IL. When making a career path change within the company, the training provided to prepare you for a new job isn't always the best. The systems (computer/technical) department isn't full of the most competent minds. Part of the problem is that State Farm tries to be really accommodating for individuals seeking new career opportunities and it's common for non-technical people to move into technical jobs. Some technical jobs require a formal computer related education. Software development is not that exciting at State Farm, it's rather mundane.

Pros

Recognize that there is life outside of State Farm; good recognition of work/life balance; time off policies reflect very family friendly atmosphere; State Farm "nice" meant most everyone was very friendly; as a private company they are not as prone to the market ups and downs and can think more strategically when it comes to finding the right balance between profit and cost cutting. Great pension package!

Cons

Hard to get the foot in the door at the appropriate level. Those who start off their careers or are very early in their career can move up. Those who want to enter in at a mid career level have a difficult time getting into the company.

Pros

State Farm really takes care of their employees. The people who work there are easy to get along with and are usually helpful. There is a great opportunity for advancement within the company and they will help you develop yourself to achieve your goals.

Cons

In Quote and Bind, we are required to adhere to our schedule rather closely. They monitor our time a little too much, but many call centers do the same. The rules and procedures are always changing, and while they are always communicated, it seems a bit crazy sometimes.
