Pros

Financial services experience. The ‘big’ name of State Street – (which meant more before everything became centralized or work was being constantly outsourced). Commute is good if you live in the city.

Cons

Disturbingly low pay; know your worth before you accept a job here. High turnover, unexpected and surprise lay-offs, not all but most managers I’ve met either don’t manage or horde knowledge. You have to dig deep, long and far to learn something new and relevant since all the work is divided into Centers of Excellence. Horrible employee rating system which is totally sewed. Overqualified people working monotonous jobs.

Pros

-Decent Benefits -Flexible working arrangements -Good place to gain a lot of new skills

Cons

-Highly Political -Unethical behavior demonstrated by management -Promotions based on relationships not merit -Management devalues hard working employees by rewarding relationships over performance leaving highly performing employees feeling disconnected and unmotivated -Need to partake in groupthink or you will likely be put on an action plan or worse you may have your job eliminated -Management preaches a lot about having certain values but doesn’t lead by example -Company culture has become toxic -Company no longer sees their employees as their most valued asset

Pros

I still have a job

Cons

Compensation has been terrible for the last several years with most employees not getting an increase. Additionally this past January the company made a change to no longer allow in job promotions for certain levels after the annual cycle had completed. Over the years I have seen several good people leave over compensation. Only to hire a replacement, with less experience, for more money than the previous employee would have stayed for.
