Talented colleagues, but poor leadership drove me to leave

Pros

Flexibility and remote work options were a plus. Incredibly smart, passionate colleagues who care deeply about their work. I learned a lot here and worked on meaningful projects I’m proud of.

Cons

- Promotions and advancement opportunities were limited and inconsistent. -Multiple layoffs and leadership changes led to a downturn in morale. There was unclear communication, a lack of psychological safety, and a sharp shift in management style. - Concerns raised to HR regarding management went unaddressed - Quiet rollback of DEI efforts was deeply disappointing, especially coming after a time when Stride publicly emphasized inclusion and equity initiatives. - The CEO appears increasingly disconnected from the company’s educational mission, with priorities seeming to lean more toward profit and shareholder returns than the needs of students and teachers. This shift in focus undermines the trust and purpose that drew many of us to the organization.

Pros

Some dedicated teachers who genuinely care about student success. Flexible, remote work structure. Opportunity to work with a diverse student body.

Cons

Patterns of steering minority students toward Heron Virtual Academy, which is perceived by many as more of an “alternative school,” creating inequitable academic pathways. Minority teachers face noticeably less support and fewer advancement opportunities compared to peers. Administrative culture can feel exclusionary and dismissive of diversity concerns. Decisions impacting student placement and teacher roles often lack transparency and consistency. Morale suffers due to high turnover and lack of trust in leadership
