Nice Place to Work

Pros

Always work to do, you are constantly challenged to grow and cross train to learn beyond what your job title is. Has been a great experience to learn management skills, other areas of finance and even how the plant works. Bosses are all very supportive.

Cons

Sometimes can be a very stressful environment. There will be workers who will be negative all the time and complain but that can be found at pretty much any job. Not much room to move up and get promotions unless older workers leave.

We are actively seeking to develop our next generation of leaders internally. Our target for Management/Supervisory openings is to fill 75% internally. Like many organizations, we have many experienced leaders who have helped us grow from 113 people in 1984 to nearly 3000 in 2016. A number of us will retire in the next few years. We have had "promotion chains" in which as many as 6 people have been promoted when 1 high level opening occurs. Our young workers are our future leaders.

Pros

Great people to work with, good raises, clean work environment. Great pay with good benefits. Can move up quickly thru bidding on positions.

Cons

Some supervisors are not that great. Some supervisors will hang you out to dry, will ask you to do one thing and when management gets involved will act like they had nothing to do with it. Not many minorities in office at all.

Pros

SW Michigan is a great place to work and raise a family. Short commutes, good school systems, company is privately held and is financially healthy. This company is big enough to offer a good career path in manufacturing and engineering and small enough to be on a first name basis with the company's President and Vice Presidents. Summit likes to grow their own management. Lean manufacturing (Toyota Production System) is integrated into every aspect of the operation and employees receive excellent OTJ training.

Cons

Summit is an automotive supplier with price pressures from both the OEM's and material suppliers. Because Summit is lean, employees with a narrow skill set or a reluctance to seek out resources may struggle to be successful.
