Pros

Lots of opportunities to train and learn. Great for people that just want to work in Banking, nothing more and nothing less.

Cons

All training is specific to SunTrust, no skills are really transferable. It's a glorified sales job, little access to actual financials.

Pros

It's a clean environment. No heavy lifting required. Established, recognized regional bank. Provides salary and benefits that are within industry standards.

Cons

There are too many levels of middle management with managers over too few employees (causes micro-managing). Current managers generally do not contribute to the work production because they are too many years removed from performing the work. Middle management is made of mostly women who have been in the company for decades and in their management positions for many years without being advanced further or continuing their formal education. They have extreme difficulty managing individuals who are new to SunTrust, professionals with advanced degrees or employees with career experience outside of SunTrust who need some orientation in order to fit into the SunTrust culture. No promotional opportunities for the reasons stated above so managers can do little other than to suggest moving to another area of the company (which would require starting from the bottom in a new department.) Survey of employee satisfaction was disappointing and company's solution is to send middle managers to internal management training classes rather than address the fundamental problems.

SunTrust AKA IBM 2

Pros

Great proximity to being downtown. Excellent benefits structure for being a bank employee (no-fee bank accounts, higher interest rate, and other perks.) Lastly, it's the ability to work from home a few days a week

Cons

Very very... political. More opportunity provided to the 'haves' versus 'have nots'. Most of the company IT work is being outsourced to IBM. Very slow in terms of upgrading infrastructure.
