Pros

More "client focused" than most banks Very smart and capable core employee base Lots of job variety in the retail sector to choose and specialize from

Cons

Lack of vision... Trying to be Wells Fargo without the Wells capability or network Sales culture is all over the place. Capable relationship bankers trying to widget sell. The very definition of a "glass ceiling" bank. Nearly horrific talent management.

Pros

Benefits are solid, pay is average, hours are flexible, recently relaxed the dress code. The culture is very much what you would expect with a regional bank. If you are looking for a place to coast, this might be a good place, but overall you are not going to gain much experiences to help advance a career outside of retail banking.

Cons

Very few opportunities for development or advancement. Leadership doesn't seem to be able to effectively communicate the visions of the organization and managers are promoted because of their ability to do a job, not to manage and develop people. Very silo'ed and divided work between all parts of the bank. Lack of innovation from everyone I've worked with- SunTrust only changes or advances when 'the market' does. Lack of appetite to test and learn, operates in a 'fear of failure' attitude. They have been a 'follower' in all aspects.

Pros

If you're good, no one micromanages you. Good pay.

Cons

Terrible upper management who don't understand the job and how we are affected by certain decisions, which often make no sense. Poor technology. Started off losing incentive over time due to SunTrust trying to save money. Yearly layoffs.
