Excellent benefits on paper, but micromanaged and sales driven.
Pros
SunTrust offers nice benefits to it's employees. We have several decent options for health insurance and the company matches up to 6% of your contributions to your 401(k). SunTrust also offers tuition reimbursement up to $5,500 per year in degrees related to banking. Employees also get 2 weeks paid vacation after 6 months and 5 paid sick days.
Cons
-Extremely micro-managed, you will have set expectations of at least x number of phone calls / appointments / "quality conversations" per day, and you will spend a large amount of time doing busy work related to those activities. -Computer systems are extremely antiquated. There are several programs that are DOS based (so old they don't even recognize a mouse!) that you will use on a daily basis. Most of the computers still run windows XP (which is no longer supported by Microsoft OR receives security updates!!). -Compared to competitors, SunTrust's banking procedures are very outdated. When you deposit a check, for instance, you have to wait for it to "clear". Most banks give their clients immediate availability on checks now. -SunTrust tends to hire employees at a competitive rate, but yearly raises are normally very low (0.5% - 3.0%) and internal promotions tend to be lackluster. I have seen (multiple times) the bank hire people with no banking experience at $7,000 - $8,000 per year more than current employees with years of experience. There have also been cases where lower-ranked employees earn more than higher-ranked coworkers, and I have even heard of one instance an Assistant Manager (with no banking experience) was offered a higher salary than the Branch Manager. The entire pay system is very arbitrary and lacks fairness/consistency.
