Nightmare at Supermicro

Pros

- You get paid - Free breakfast/ dinner (only if you stay late)

Cons

- Over 90% of the people there speak Mandarin...some really need to learn to speak English - Supermicro-management - Old dirty office space, no privacy - Non-flexible working hours, have to be there no later than 9am, and if you leave right at 6pm you get dirty look. - Prepare to deal with managers with Bi-Polar disorder. - The CEO only cares about giving his propaganda speech..saying that they are the best and s***, and in order to be his "Pro ++" level everyone has to work even harder. (Prob by staying later and working on weekend...over nothing) - No respect, they think whoever yells the loudest is the winner....

Pros

Free breakfast (but only enough for half the building). Paid benefits. It's a job. No one gets fired, they just hire more people. Great if you're looking for somewhere to work until you retire.

Cons

No opportunity for professional growth, gaining new skills or learning anything really. Salary is way below average. Vacation is accrued slowly and caps out lower than other companies in the area. People rarely take vacation. Female employees beware: Company policy says that if you take maternity leave they will not guarantee you your same position will be there when you come back or that you'll be paid the same wage as before. This is illegal. You must be at work by 9am and stay until 6pm. You cannot work through lunch and leave early. You cannot negotiate a different schedule. No work from home. IT professionals who work more than 8 hours a day are not paid overtime. This is illegal in California. You will only be promoted if you work Saturdays. Most people working Saturdays aren't really doing anything but being seen at work on a Saturday. The CEO takes note of this. If you are female, some employees may not take you seriously. No innovation. No new ideas. No changes if it means spending money instead of saving.

Pros

None that come to mind

Cons

Having worked for several high tech companies in the Bay Area, moving to SuperMicro has been a big mistake. The company is unethical (read the headlines, they’re true), the employees are unprofessional and disrespectful, and the leadership has no strategic vision. The CEO still HAND SIGNS documents so us managers can open reqs, make offers to new hires, etc. What is this? 1980? Have never seen anything like it. No 401k matching 2weeks vacation per year No remote working (reports show who is in office) Systems are archaic Lower than average pay
