I almost regret working here.

Pros

I've worked here for just about two years now, and I almost wish I hadn't. It was a decent enough gig when I started; it got me out of a minimum wage job. Past that, nothing got better. Some insurance is better than none, but I really don't have anything nice to say about this company anymore. My team members/co-workers are all amazing people, and we all do great work. We do not get compensated appropriately for our duties and the amount of utter C R A P we have to deal with. All of the negative reviews are absolutely, 100% true and management is beyond awful.

Cons

All levels of management are rude, uncaring, unprofessional, and negligent of the employees and their needs. Many workers are unnecessarily fired (and without notice), but stage it up in a mass email to make it look like they had left of their own accord. Pay is incredibly low--beyond belief. Everyone who works here that isn't management is paid 10k LESS than an equal job elsewhere (Mohawk, Shaw, etc.). One would think that a company that throws a little party for having achieved a $1,000,000 milestone could at least afford to replace a broken $10 toaster, treat their employees every now and again to a DECENT BREAKFAST TO FEED ALL OF THEIR EMPLOYEES, or even a 'good job'. No recognition to the most important departments, because obviously it is just a waste of time. Work hours are screwed up and barely even negotiable, don't even THINK about trying to get some additional time off for the holidays to stay with family unless you have the PTO to forfeit. Speaking of, Paid Time Off is one hell of a joke here. There is no separation of sick days and vacation days, no. It's allllllllll mashed up together so if you get the flu, surgery, pregnant, on top of family emergencies, doctor visits, dentist appointments, CHILDREN TO TAKE CARE OF-----... it sucks. Nobody around here wants to acknowledge that it's an issue. You don't like it, you can leave. Not to mention when it snows. Oh god. It's like every time it starts to get cold in Calhoun, everything goes to hell. Rash scoldings, talk of employees banding together, conspiring to all take a day off together because we're friends, when in reality we are TERRIFIED to drive on icy or snowed roads that our tires are not able to handle. You'd better be walking to work unless you want a PTO day taken out for not showing up if the President was able to make it in from his 'tedious trip from Atlanta'! Employees receive a small 'bonus' for Christmas, assuming you've been here at least 6 months. Not 5 months and 3 weeks 4 days-- 6 months. Same goes for raises, so me and at least another coworker have been gimped out of a raise last year for not being hired one week prior, and now our raises have been pushed back until April, in which will have been two full years without a raise since we started. Long story short, if you work here, be prepared to be told a thousand lies and a thousand promises of things that will not happen. Also we have no HR because they keep getting fired. All of our past HR have been wonderful, amazing people and deserve way better, which hopefully they have found.

Pros

The talented people I worked with would be the only redeeming aspect of my time at this company. I created lasting friendships with a few wonderful co-workers.

Cons

•Numerous rude/disrespectful interactions with upper management (to call them a "leadership team" is reaching and borders on fantasy!) •Very low pay. Compensation for your extra work and effort is non-existent or at the very least insulting •Benefits are a disgrace and paid time off allowances are a joke •Work-life balance is in shambles when you work here •The sense of entitlement and superiority among the upper management crowd is appalling and I see no sign of that changing in the near future. •Ridiculous and entirely unprofessional (frat house like) behavior at markets and shows so that the reputation of this company is well known throughout the industry...ONE.BIG.JOKE. •Hire talented people, hinder and impede their ability to do their job, then complain about their work or even fire them, this is status quo at Surya •Top to bottom this place is the poster child for dysfunction, not your typical "every workplace has it's issues", but the "someone needs to call for intervention, this place is unreal" type of dysfunction •If I had the option for no stars in the Ratings section, there likely would have been a ZERO for an overall rating on this review.

Pros

Some of the finest, most talented, caring and fun people I’ve ever worked with (Leadership Team excluded).

Cons

All the cons start and end with Leadership: They do not clearly articulate expectations. They do not have a viable long-term business strategy, and do not innovate. They do not practice what they preach—just read the Surya core values at surya.com/careers/—what a joke. They do not have a realistic view of how long it takes to complete tasks/projects. They do not inspire, or even trust their own people. Leadership will throw you under the bus to save themselves. Expect to be micromanaged. Expect random and unwarranted firings. Working outrageously long hours, seven days a week, eight weeks straight is ignored and unappreciated. They do not value processes, schedules or deadlines. They do not value personal lives. They do not show respect or gratitude. I can guarantee they will not value you. Don't work here.
