Pros

The people who work below COO level are great. They support each other, work way too much and are very talented.

Cons

a) Benefits are terrible for a company of this size. Sign number one they do not care about the lives of employees. b) Pay in all departments is too low. In most cases below the level for anyone, including a single recent college grad, to be financially independent and flourish. All well below the national averages- it is so sad for a company with so much potential. c) The COO needs to go. Sometimes it isn't everyone else. d) Leadership team- The conflict of interests of the team members is unethical to say the least. e) Terrible communication- Let's not consider any employee, process, or well, ANYTHING before we decide to implement something. Let's just tell everyone to find a way to make it happen. Working in sales I feel like all i do is lie to everyone i speak to- and i have to, because, things are just made up over lunch, drinks, and phone calls. f) To be technological, you need technology. A pretty website is not technology. It is misdirection. g) No HR, again h) Annual reviews delayed- with just a few months notice (who does that?) i) The fridge situation is awful. Rotten food, spoiled milk. j) Markets are so exhausting. More than they need to be. One year through and I am already looking to get out. k) The president is very smart, innovative and a great salesman- he works very hard, it is apparent. But has the wrong council for growing the business.

Pros

A very stimulating environment. Creatively a great place to work as there is no direction. This allows for a great amount of creative energy. The company has great product for the most part. The rugs are their strong point. The home accessories need to be accessed as they aren't much different from what you could get at TJ MAX for a much lower cost. The people on my team were extremely good at what they do.

Cons

Management has a very narrow view of what they could be. That want to be big but don't support creative in acheiving their goals. There are no budgets and no clear ideas of how the company is moving forward to be what they want. The company has become too big to be run like a small company. The management team has no faith in the people they hire, although those people are very competent. To attract the right talent the company needs to be more centrally located the commute is terrible.

Pros

Company has a work hard / play hard mentality

Cons

VERY poor communication with management. Rules are ever changing and very hard to get any support from anywhere in the company.

We can agree on the "work hard / play hard" mentality, and you are not the 1st to speak of "poor communication." Surya has many improvements happening; a big focus is to ensure we bring the right people on board. Rules are changing, and we believe for the better. By improving how we communicate rules, reasons for tasks, policies, etc., to our teams, we will help our employees feel good about their decision to work with Surya. Thank you for your comments.
