Fearful of my future at this company

Pros

Dedicated, smart and talented employees; gorgeous product.

Cons

I wanted to work for Surya because I thought the company looked promising and exciting, and in many ways they are. The product is beautiful, the company is growing very fast, and the people who work there are very dedicated. However (a big however), since I started I have felt mistrustful of management and worry about my job, even though I know I’m good at what I do and have always been successful at other companies. There have been a number of people let go for reasons no one understands. The longer standing employees are definitely the favorites among management, and it seems they can do no wrong, even though they are in many cases the employees who do the least work. There are a couple of ‘whistle blowers’ within the team who are very vocal on the rumor circuit. All of things combined make my uneasy about working for Surya. I don’t trust management to behave in a professional manner, and I know many other people who work here feel similarly, particularly if they are not one of the old crew. I can also say for certain that management asked employees to write positive reviews as damage control (after firing people who didn’t deserve to be fired). No one who works here would give Surya a five star review. My advice to management is that you reap what you sow. When you treat people with disrespect, ignore them, and control them through fear of losing their jobs, you will never be the successful company you strive to be. Those big successful companies that are so often mentioned in Surya company meetings, did not get where they are by being unfair. Management is coming across as being tyrannical.

Pros

*Meet really great people and create lifelong friends. *Gym at HQ in White, GA. *You will learn what you want/don't want from an employer.

Cons

*Micromanagement to the max- from leadership to the low man on the totem pole. *Leadership and management has CONSTANT turnover and each replacement has different views and goals for the company. *No freedom to express creativity or ideas. *Supervisors feel threatened if you offer ideas they didn't propose. *Salary employees are treated like hourly employees. (You're only salary at Surya so they don't have to pay you overtime). *Salary is not competitive. *Markets can be fun, but the con is working 14 hour days for 7 days in a row (not including your days in the office) with no extra pay and only one comp day of which you must take within 2 weeks of returning (which is crunch time for sales to convert orders, so taking this day off is not in your best interest). *Unrealistic sales commission goals and expectations - don't expect a bonus (no matter what they tell you in your interview). *In the last year, Sales has been provided 4 different commission plans and the numbers are never accurate. *Not to mention the 3 different position contracts as the requirements for the position are constantly changing. *Minimal growth opportunities. *Turnover is outrageous, especially in Sales - this effects customer growth which in turn effects your growth. *Sales refers to this as the "Monthly Sales Firing". *Benefits for families are very expensive and not affordable based on pay. *HR is practically nonexistent. Nothing is confidential and some situations I've witnessed are referred to as retaliation. *CEO is full of inappropriate comments which HR does not address. (Racism, Swearing, Belittlement, etc). *Raises are not offered even to tenured employees. *"Tenured employees" are an office joke as you are considered "tenured" if you make it past the 1 year mark. *Department and company wide politics. *Communication within the department including the company as a whole is very poor. *Pretty much need a bathroom pass to use the restroom. *Taking your "provided" breaks are frowned upon. *Upper Management is verbally abusive, throws things in meetings, and does not offer guidance where needed. Some feel personally attacked if you do not offer a "good morning" of some sort each day. *Sales Management will do whatever necessary to secure their job. They ask you to do one thing, then reprimand you for doing it. They will praise you in department meetings, then reprimand you for the same thing later that day. *Growing pains are inevitable, but the technology to continue to grow is too expensive to warrant updating the company software. *Each department works out of different software portals, hence the communication failure. I could go on but the negative company moral you experience on a daily basis is not worth working at Surya. Do yourself a favor and continue looking for other jobs and career paths; you will be better off. If you choose to discard everything myself and others have offered you in advice here on GD, I wish you the best of luck.

Pros

You meet great people. Catered breakfast once a mine and there is always food!

Cons

Bullying, harassment, discrimination, favoritism, threatening, and racism. Management and HR are horrible. They only care about sales and not the people that bring in the money. Please take all good reviews with a grain of salt.
