It's a job. Better opportunities exist elsewhere.

Pros

Good healthcare benefits. Some employees who truly care about trying to do a good job in less than ideal circumstances.

Cons

Management has been promoted to positions of incompetence. Lengths of service stretching over decades has led to a workforce that is stale on present day leadership skills and technology/software utilization resulting in inefficiency and few opportunities for advancement. Leadership style and culture is not one which empowers or respect employee input resulting in low morale and reduced efforts by employees who could make a difference. Communication is a filtered one-way street. Compensation is below market for comparable positions outside the healthcare industry.

Pros

It's a job. Only work during the week, no weekends. Many nice, hardworking people within the company.

Cons

It's a job ... but they constantly make you feel like you're about to get fired. Constantly signing error reports, as if they are collecting a file of mistakes so they can fire you at any time. If you're in the click, you move up the ranks quickly, others will get nowhere ... you also get more perks in the click. Constantly talked down to. Only raise in years was around $.15 cents. Constantly changing software and programs, creating new scripts, and workflows. Probably the worst job to have at Sutter and the supervisors do nothing to make it better. The pay is far lower than Kaiser, with no unions. People are fired all the time for baseless reasons ... they'll make something up and then fight to keep you from getting unemployment.

Lots of positives, lots of negatives

Pros

Company is very loyal. When a department is relocated or dissolved, they find internal positions in other departments for those who want to stay. Lots of affiliates means lots of job opportunities if you want to do something else within the company. Patient care is the priority over profit Employees are involved in interviewing potential new hires, helping ensure they'll mesh with the group Company is growing and hiring

Cons

Since 2008 they've cut some part of the benefits package every year, ended the profit-sharing bonus and reduced COL raises Politics are horrible between regions, with executives frequently acting immaturely and vengeful towards other executvies Under-performing employees or those in positions they can't handle are dealt with in any way Promotions are based on favoritism over merit Virtually impossible to get more than a 3% COL raise, regardless of performance. The only way to really raise your compensation is to change jobs within the organization No training is provided. When you take on a new responsibility, you're expected to just figure it out on your own
