Pros

There are lots of opportunities with Swift. I was always told bad things about Swift and Swift drivers. They are a driver mill company so you do get a lot of poor drivers, but all companies that train have the same issues. As an otr driver I had a great GM Jim. I am out of Lathrop Ca. The terminal here is a good one. I have never had any problems go unsolved. After showing them I am a true truck driver and not a whinning wheel holder. I got all the miles I could legally run. Easy to shine like a diamond. Once you get a gold, platinum, or diamond rating. They give you miles. I started with Swift because they have dedicated accounts in my home town. I work at target. I am home every night and usaly have weekends off. I make about 46 to 50 thousand a year. I know that is not a great wage for someone who has been driving sents 1991. I am home everyday and get to see my kids, grandkids, wife, and parents.Percect job for me at this time. My account manager is a great Lady named Julie. She works hard to keep everything running smooth. Trucking is not a job for the lazy cry baby type. If you are ready to work keep safe and use your head, you can go far with Swift. Almost forgot they have a program called Swift charities. They help drivers and families in need. If everyone gave just 1 dollar a week it would be even better. Check it out.

Cons

Pay is lower than it should be but still not bad. Camera in truck on the driver. You want one on the road I'm ok with that. I don't like people filming me while I am sleeping, working or changing. If I go back otr with Swift it will be as a o/o. There lease on is not bad but I would not lease a truck from them go to outside company. Read there lease to see why.

Pros

I work on the rail account and you have a choice of Monday - Friday with Weekends off or Friday And Saturday off or Sunday and Monday off if you work weekends you get .8 on top of your miles pay.

Cons

I hate the live loads but you do get paid after the first 2 hrs, starting the 2 hr you get $ 7.50 for every 15 minutes

Pros

Swift is one of the big 3 trucking firms, along with JB Hunt and Schneider, all of whom have branched out into intermodal transportation. The upside is that there are plenty of loads. It is also possible to achieve small raises and safety bonuses and pay moderate amounts for group health.

Cons

The downside for company drivers is that these three are non-union employers whose pay rates are only average and whose turnover is relatively high as a consequence. Swift hires a lot of younger drivers and so has only an average safety record. Some older drivers leave because they are just not earning the kind of money they used to earn. The bottom line is that it is tough saving up enough to buy your own truck. It could take ten years. They do have a lease program that gives you a buy-out option.
