Pros

Better some work than no work.

Cons

I am in the Bay Area, so I am only reviewing schools in Oakland, Richmond and San Francisco. The school sites I was assigned were very very dangerous. Students were wild, disrespectful and very very behind academically. They contract with charter schools that are mostly robbing the government. Many, many of these schools struggle to find permanent teachers and it is a revolving door of substitutes teachers all the time for them. Therefore, the students area apathetic and simply don't care. Those are very difficult situations to put a substitute teacher in. The pay is very low, with some sub jobs paying as low as 19.00! Very few jobs pay a fair per hour wage. If they do, you are going to a very challenging site.

Pros

Choosing what days you want to work is convenient. Some schools pay more than others. You can be requested by schools which helps your profile. I didn't have to have an in person interview to start.

Cons

Sometimes it can be stressful not knowing where you're going to be working, and every school really is so different. Some schools pay more than others.

Pros

You can find work daily. If you need assistance the support team always reaches out. Most jobs pay at least $20 per hour, many pay over $23.

Cons

The number of hours requested are typically under 8, so even if you work 5 days in a row you don’t make as much money as you could if you were working full time. The support team is only online and you can only reach them via email. They typically respond within 1-2 days.
