I’m sorry to hear you had a negative experience at Symetra. I hope you shared your concerns with a manager or your HRBP before you decided to leave. We’re working hard to keep pace with record-setting new business, staffing up and automating more of what we do. CSRs have a demanding job and performance expectations should always be clear. Promoting from within is a value we pride ourselves on, and many of our call center employees successfully transition into other roles in the company.

Pros

A progressive and competent female CEO who is committed to workplace diversity and empowering women. Symetra is owned by the third largest Japanese life insurance company and has benefitted from their financial strength. The Japanese seem committed to growing the company, they’ve adapted to our Northwest casual lifestyle, and are amazing to work with.

Cons

Small player in a world of much larger, better funded competitors. Mediocre products and constantly working hard to bring legacy systems up to modern standards.

Thank you for your comments regarding Symetra’s leadership and our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion – I couldn’t agree more! Though we certainly operate in a competitive industry, Symetra has made meaningful gains in recent years, which is backed up by our strong performance in 2022 and our growing brand. We’re proud to say that we have some of the best product offerings and customer service in the industry and that, by listening to our current and future customers we are building financial products and experiences to meet them where they are. We have a wonderful relationship with our parent company, Sumitomo Life, Japan’s third largest insurer, who provides tremendous support for our growth in the United States. We’re investing in our future - for our customers, our business partners, our communities and our employees and we’re excited about where we’re heading!

Symetra is proud to offer employees flexible work options, and many of them choose to work remotely. We’ve reduced our office sizes, and teams continue to find new ways to use our updated and flexible spaces to fit their needs. In terms of compensation, Symetra regularly monitors trends within our industry to maintain our competitiveness. However, it sounds like you have not had a positive experience and I would love to hear more about that. If you are willing to give additional feedback, please reach out to me at erin.woltz@symetra.com.
