Pros

You hear about corporations trying to squeeze every last bit of profit from the little guy but from what I've seen, it doesn't feel that way with Symetra. I feel like they're genuinely trying to build an inclusive and welcoming environment for everybody. The managers that I've had have been super understanding and lax. I haven't had any encounters with my manager where I butt heads with them over time off for whatever reason.

Cons

you have some genuinely brilliant people, and then there are people on the other end who are just coasting.

Pros

A progressive and competent female CEO who is committed to workplace diversity and empowering women. Symetra is owned by the third largest Japanese life insurance company and has benefitted from their financial strength. The Japanese seem committed to growing the company, they’ve adapted to our Northwest casual lifestyle, and are amazing to work with.

Cons

Small player in a world of much larger, better funded competitors. Mediocre products and constantly working hard to bring legacy systems up to modern standards.

Thank you for your comments regarding Symetra’s leadership and our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion – I couldn’t agree more! Though we certainly operate in a competitive industry, Symetra has made meaningful gains in recent years, which is backed up by our strong performance in 2022 and our growing brand. We’re proud to say that we have some of the best product offerings and customer service in the industry and that, by listening to our current and future customers we are building financial products and experiences to meet them where they are. We have a wonderful relationship with our parent company, Sumitomo Life, Japan’s third largest insurer, who provides tremendous support for our growth in the United States. We’re investing in our future - for our customers, our business partners, our communities and our employees and we’re excited about where we’re heading!

Pros

Great workplace culture to work with, financially stable, friendly co-workers

Cons

Sometimes the software systems could be better. Better integrations or more cutting-edge systems that would save time from completing redundant tasks.

Thank you for this great review. The workplace culture at Symetra is something I really value as well and it’s nice to read about in Glassdoor reviews. We’re also proud of our recognitions from the past year like Great Places to Work, Best Workplaces for Women, and Forbes Best Employers in Washington. In regards to our software systems, I appreciate that feedback. We are in the process of upgrading some systems, but if you’d like to discuss more, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly.
