      Interesting engineering work in a stagnant industry

      Pros

      Nice culture; dynamic, non-monotonous engineering work; open communication; fiscally conservative stable company; EDA market leader; right company size, employees still have a name, not just a number

      Cons

      Slow industry and company growth specially in US sites, senior most positions filled from outside or relocations from international sites rather than promotions from within, no yearly cost of living salary adjustments, no yearly stock awards

      Pros

      very stable company with technology and business savvy top management; good technology that changes rapidly; interesting work and problems to solve; working on software tools that are used by most chip designers can be very satisfying. generous vacation time.

      Cons

      industry is shrinking; work too specialized and experience gained at Synopsys may not be that relevant to other software jobs. in some groups management is too hierarchical with goals strictly mandated from top to bottom. not much cooperation between groups. working on low visibility project means no recognition while working on high visibility project means too much stress. currently over-reacting to the recession by cutting on supplies like notebooks, pens, etc.

      Pros

      1. You are working with some of the best people in the industry. 2. My co-workers are really smart and best of the breed (so to speak). 3. There is healthy competitive atmosphere and the management awards good work. 4. It is the largest EDA company and the products are well know. 5. There is job security even in tough economic times. 6. I really like the work life balance/ . 7. Flexible work hours, and time off . 8. Located in good area, nice weather. 9. Good work 10. Good learning opportunities, as the company is the leading provider of EDA software so get to know the latest problems.

      Cons

      1. But, career grow is somewhat slow. 2. You can only go down if you want to move from the best company in a particular area.
