Reality Check For TE

Pros

People on the site are hard working and care about what they do.

Cons

Executive leadership are clueless and don’t care about people. Predominant view is that people are the cause of all the issues on the site. All of the executives live overseas or out of state and rarely visit the site, so they are clueless to how the plan runs and how to lead it. The MLT team makes poor decisions that end up derailing projects only to blame the teams while lying to each other to cover themselves. End of 2021 site managers were forced to put 25% of their workers as a Needs Improvement, regardless of individual performance, resulting in massive attrition and a loss of their credibility to lead the organization. The CTO is a clown who wants to be an engineer vs an executive and has zero authentic leadership skills. He’s amazing and finding ways to blame everyone else for his inadequacy as a functional leader and had a real talent for demotivating his staff whenever he talks.

Pros

TE has a great world-wide reputation for ethics and the pay can be very good. If you are located in the headquarters, there are many opportunities for moving up; otherwise, don't expect anything. The people are generally great to work with. When laid off, the severance package was very generous and TE does take care of their employees well from that standpoint.

Cons

The company is extremely quick to downsize the nanosecond there is a whiff of lower earnings. There must be tremendous pressure from the top to protect the EPS for shareholders. Almost never a year goes by when there isn't a layoff which creates a huge burden for the employees. No effort is ever made to protect employees through the tough times -- you're on your end. In that sense, TE is what I would call a "ruthless" company. Once you get to middle-management, expect to start sacrificing work-life balance significantly.
