Pros

Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Very team-oriented, from management on down. Plenty of people who can/will help you at the drop of a hat. Editors strove to maintain a work-life balance for staffers, as much as you can in the media business. There were high ethical standards and working here means a chance at meeting top Pentagon press and attending high-level events and functions.

Cons

Long hours on occasion. Lots and lots of turnover among staff. The office is not easily accessible by Metro.

Pros

Good parking. Clean lobby. Improving news product.

Cons

Middle management is a huge problem. Management hires family and friends. Sales management is disrespectful and degrades employees. Several people have left because of her. Several reports to HR and nothing is done. Revolving door is due to poor treatment. Those that are left are afraid to speak up. Mainly because they have seen nothing done with previous complaints. Product is improving. Sales Management took a good staff and destroyed it, causing good employees to leave and those that are left with no motivation. You cannot thrive in an environment of deceit and instigation. Those that are left deserve better. But upper management turns a blind eye to the behavior of middle management and how they treat their employees behind closed doors. It's a true Jekyll and Hyde situation.

Pros

Learned a great deal about digital and television advertising, which I have been able to apply to other jobs.

Cons

Former General Sales Manager decided, seemingly on a whim, that my services were no longer needed after I had obtained more than double the number of affirmative commitments to annual marketing seminar, so I was given a half day off on Friday only to come in Monday so he could notify me that I was terminated with no prior warning or indication.
