Pros

Drink the kool-aid and you'll be fine.

Cons

These past two years have been so awful that many TEGNA station newsrooms are unionizing. Low pay, low morale, rampant bullying and a poor management team at the top are the common factors. They're quick to encourage you to try something new, but run away when you step on too many toes. They also love to fire people for no ethical reason. They are loaded with poor management and are horrible judges of character. They also host the worst healthcare service and coupled with low.pay and rare raises, you end up losing more money year. They care nothing for their employees and often employ intimidation.

Great Atmosphere, Grim Reality

Pros

Everyone was there to work hard and treat one another as friends and colleagues. People ultimately loved the line of work they were doing and shared the common love of the city they lived in. Some of the realest and funnest people I've met.

Cons

As you can guess, compensation. The ONLY way to earn what you're worth in that particular market within TEGNA is to put in years of work with bare minimum time off and micromanaging schedules not accommodating to work-life (personal appointments, work from home, basic trust). It's a great place to put in some time and get experience while making awesome friends, but only smart long-term if you plan on staying for 20 years. Times are changing and young, knowledgable talent will find much better companies to work for; that's just the reality. All the money is handled very tightly. Things also move slowly in terms of idea creation; the biggest (not best) ideas come directly from department heads, most over 45 years of age.
