Limited advancement for development without moving to account management or recruiting

Initially, I thought Tek Systems was a great place to work for. But after my contract ended and it was time to look for a new assignement, I found that the recruiters only want to help you if it benefits them. I had an instance where a recruiter called me about an assignment. He wanted to pay me less money, but expected me to travel further.(An hour away) With gas being almost $4.00 a gallon, I would have spent darn near my whole paycheck in gas! When I told him I was not interested, I no longer received calls for any open assignments, he does not respond to any of my emails and sends my calls straight to voice mail. I never thought that I would receive such treatment, because I always had such a great rapport with the recruiters, but I see since I am not "jumping through hoops" for them, I am no longer an asset to them.
