Bleeding talent

Pros

Its a paycheck in an interesting industry trying to solve a complex problem.

Cons

Sadly, they need to solve internal issues first. HR is incompetent in addressing talent retention and competitive benefits. Management, especially senior leadership, have no idea what they're doing. The entire place is a circus that prioritizes political influence over merit. The best people are leaving.

We appreciate the honest feedback. Know your voice is being heard and we’re taking this seriously. It seems the work hours didn't match your needs, and we get it: this isn't for everyone. Driving the future of freight, operating with a lean team, and doing what most have never done before can be a lot. This is compounded by having a brand new facility, in a new location, with newly formed teams. It's the perfect combination of "pardon our dust" and "wow- that is a lot to accomplish." We're actively working to create the structure and policies that manage these challenges. However, if you feel you were retaliated against, we encourage you to please reach out to a member of our HR team (hrbp@torc.ai). We have mechanisms to address these types of concerns and do not want that type of experience for anyone. We look forward to hearing from you.

Losing its way

Pros

Above-average pay and benefits. Challenging and rewarding work. At the working level and much of lower to middle management consists of some of the most intelligent, friendly, and dedicated people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Work-life balance is a mixed bag, depending on department/role, but generally above average. The CEO is a great person both on and off the clock, and appears to do his best to advance the company and care for everyone who is a part of it. However, I speculate that he is being outvoted more frequently on recent high-impact decisions.

Cons

Morale across much of the company is at an all-time low. The culture is disappearing due to an insane voluntary and involuntary turnover rate. Upper management consistently drives technical decisions and organizational change with little to no insight or regard for the consequences of many high-impact decisions. Upper management in general is completely disconnected from middle management, much less the working level. Constant re-orgs keep the entire company consistently unbalanced and inefficient, with each new shake-up promising hope for a future that won't have time to be realized before the next shake-up is announced. Executives have prioritized short-term goals and outside investment at the detriment of core company values, long-term corporate goals, and core competencies. Transparency and accountability from upper management are the worst I've yet encountered in my career. The only consistent message from upper management over the last year has been that logic and data don't drive their decisions, they're not afraid to lie to anyone both internally and externally, and if you can't accept that and follow blindly, you are replaceable.
