Great salary but no life.

Pros

Have great salary in TAIWAN.

Cons

Long working hours. Need to on-call. Almost focusing on making ppt and presentation. (At least 50% of work time as a junior (job level 31)) (The percentage will rise with your job level growth. Some mid level enginner (job level 32) have 100% of work time on it. All senior (job level 33) have 100% work time on it, even need to have over time.) No credit with maintaining well on systems. You could receive the worst performance evaluation result even you take barely all of the non presentation (or ppt making) time maintaining the systems and resolve all the problems wihin couple hours. Does not have time to develop.

Not ready for America

Pros

Good salary range and good insurance

Cons

Next to no work life balance, except to work 50-60 hours a week with no overtime. TSMC is about obedience, if you are good at being told what to do with little to no actual thought going into your job TSMC is perfect for you. If you want to perform real engineering projects, TSMC is not a good fit. Be prepared to work there for years to prove you are loyal to company before they give you any real work. The training program in Taiwan is non existent, you will just show up to work and be asked to sit there for 10 hours and then pressured by your bosses to accomplish tasks that they will never train you how to do. it is a very frustrating work environment where all the departments are fending for themselves and trying to blame others for problems or mistakes. overall TSMC is a very poorly run company that takes little to no responsibility for its actions and over works their employees.

Pros

Comp is ok, but lags other large companies in the US.

Cons

Taiwanese style management is broken. Poor working environment. Cramming into an elevator with 20 other people in the morning. Cafeteria food that makes you sick every day. No parking if you don't get there by 7:30AM (nice way for the company to get you to come in early). You don't get to use your vacation days. This entire system is broken. You should not come to TSMC if you have a decent job working in the states. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. And also, they work hard to make sure that you can't leave the job (play interference with potential employers, cancel any days off so you can't go interview, etc).
