Pros

The pros to working at Talascend were hands down the awesome people. Everyone for the most part is VERY welcoming and friendly. Of course there are the occasional people at every company that are negative, but for the most part everyone was great! You are also able to take 10 minute smoke breaks every hour. You don't have to clock in and out so you can take a "longer" lunch if necessary. Had a couple cool work parties with food so that's always a plus.

Cons

First thing first the base pay is very low compared to many other recruiting companies in the area. Do your research before starting a new position. Do NOT just accept a new job because you're desperate. Turn over is VERY high. Within a few months 8 recruiters quit! If you're not assigned the high commission jobs, the rest are a complete joke and hard to fill positions. The health insurance is an absolute joke (was paying almost $220 monthly for health and dental) and next to nothing was covered. Had a dentist appointment and still had to come out of pocket $70 bucks because I did not choose the "buy up" plan which was almost $50 bucks a month. If you have a family forget about it. You will spend the majority of your pay check on health insurance (roughly about $8-900 dollars a month for a family plan). PTO time is not very generous. Contractor workers do not get ANY PTO days, just a check after so many months of service (if your contract even goes that long). There is no matching 401K. Almost no room for advancement. Upper management is oblivious to everyday problems. Certain people have "special" treatment and are allowed to do whatever they please and it causes a drama filled environment.

Base salary is only a portion of our overall commission structured, compensation plan and Talascend Recruiters can ultimately make as much as they would like to, based on the efforts they put forth. Thank you for your feedback and also for mentioning the “fantastic work-life balance” we have here at Talascend. As you know, we are a family-first organization and always provide ample flexibility for a healthy balance in and out of the office. On the contrary, we are sorry to hear about your noted “cons” during your time with us. To touch on a couple of your comments, we would like to first mention that our flexible Friday program is something unique to the industry and is, in fact, based on individual goals set for every staff member. Over the past two (2) years, 75% of the Talascend organization has qualified for this incentive and received additional paid time off as a result. We believe the goals set for our recruiting department are fair amongst industry standards and allows us to achieve our financial success as an organization. Secondly, we are very mindful of our employee’s safety and well-being. We have very defined processes for reporting any “unwelcomed comments/stares” (as you referenced above) to your direct supervisor and/or Human Resources Director if a situation becomes present. Please know that we do not take any claim lightly and will always complete a thorough investigation and resolution to any situation we witness -or- made aware of by our employees. Pros

My favorite thing about Talascend was truly the people - they are friendly and the company does offer the "family feel" that I've been told you can't get at other agencies. It's a great place to learn and grow, if you want to put the time in and you have a solid work ethic, and are on a team where a manager actually cares about your success, you can do very well. Once you prove yourself, you are trusted, liked, and not micro-managed. The managers who are strong at Talascend, are very strong and they care about their employees and will help in whatever way you need them to. In 2016, a new President took over and he genuinely seems to care about the success of Talascend, solving issues, and making it a better place to work, which was refreshing. Overall, I enjoyed my time at Talascend.

Cons

With pros there are always cons - these are things that I noticed during my time with Talascend. The "family feel" carries over into allowing certain behaviors that wouldn't be tolerated in other companies and people are not always held accountable for their actions; instead of being reprimanded it is over-looked. There isn't much room for growth other than title changes and pay increases are made to seem very impressive, but they aren't anything special. Pay your employees who are successful and have proved themselves better than the new people you bring in. There are some leaders who set their teams up for failure by not providing proper training or help when someone asks for it - there were plenty of times I saw employees wanting to succeed and they weren't given the help to succeed (these are people who wanted to be good at recruiting, not those who found out it wasn't for them).
