Pros

when they remember, the free snacks help. free books. sometimes company decides to provide free meals.

Cons

if you actually care about publishing and are educated, knowledgable, and take pride in the quality of the work you represent, DO NOT look for that kind of validation at this company. extremely disorganized across most aspects of business, from ensuring clients are paid the correct amount, on time and every time, to getting back to clients in a timely manner. company is so uptight about costs that they have eliminated the HR department, tolerate a constantly broken heating system (be prepared to wear a 4-5 layers of clothing year round), and do not have regular cleaning services. lack of routine cleaning services means that trash stays in their bins for weeks, people leave their dishes in the sink despite the dish washer, and the bathrooms are always a gross mess. no wonder why some kind of cold/flu is always getting passed around! very little cultural awareness of diverse authors. company is so focused on making money that the actual quality of books is shoved to the wayside. parent company explicitly thinks of you as "bottom feeders." they will tell you that the company is making xyz profits, but none of it seems to be going to upkeep and maintenance of the building or to RAISES or better computer equipment or even decent tables and chairs for "break" rooms. non-existent to little budget for cover art, which causes more headaches and problems than necessary. the salary and wages are a joke. bosses will tell you outright that there's "not a lot of opportunity for growth." whatever they try to sell you is all talk. you barely make enough to cover all your bills, etc. raises are so low they may as well be non-existent. promotions are hollow---usually determined by favoritism and only amount to an elevated title, not an elevated bank account. company overall has no interest in implementing new ideas that will heighten team morale (unless they can get it for free). the defeatist attitude of upper management hangs over the entire company like a black cloud. the actual working conditions, from the drab, lifeless decor to the dim lighting, make it feel like a gloomy hospital ward at the best, and a mental hospital wing at the worst. an overall depressing place to work that would rather let good people leave and find a replacement who they can pay even cheaper, than keep them.

Pros

Great coworkers. Free coffee and snacks. Fun job. Employees are very generous to local charities.

Cons

Awful pay and benefits. Alright if you can't find work elsewhere but keep your eyes peeled for something better.
