Pros

Streamlined systems that work. Progressive thinking, always on the edge of new product and practices. Very HR compliant, requires team leaders and all leadership to teach and train. Probably the best team members and executives in any business. Very high energy company with great talent. My best friends are people I met while working at Target.

Cons

Absolutely no work life balace as an Executive. Upward mobility is there, but requires at least 55-60 hours a week, depending on position, up to 70+ hours a week. You cannot be successful at Target without sacrificing your personal life. At 34 I was one of the "oldest" executives in our district. After marriage and kids most executives move on to careers with a better work/life balance. Those that stay make alot of money, but really sacrifice. There is even an understanding about how common divorce is among Target Executives. Myself included.

Pros

The peers that you work with tend to become like family to you. Some of the best resources in the retail market.

Cons

Some of the District management is not the best with working with people. Senior management really need to take Executives to the side and really talk to them. If a person goes over the District manager's head for some reason it seems like that person end up on corrective action not long after that. If people at the group level really likes this person then nothing is going to be done no matter if a group of people complain or one person.

Pros

Target HQ has a great downtown location and the campus is beautiful. The benefits are solid, the free coffee and snacks are nice, and the company offers a good work-life balance overall. Teams are generally friendly, and you’ll have access to a lot of data and tools to learn from. It’s also a well-known brand to have on your resume, and you get decent exposure to large-scale business operations.

Cons

That said, much of the work feels repetitive and low-impact. There are a lot of meetings with unclear outcomes, and many decisions are made by senior leadership without much input from analysts. It can be hard to grow or get promoted unless you’re in the right circles. Innovation is talked about a lot but not actually encouraged. You end up building reports and dashboards that often don’t get used, and it’s easy to feel like your work doesn’t really matter.
