Pros

Target is a good starter company for first time workers, it provides a oppertunity to learn various aspects of the retail industry since you are able to move positions rather easily. The benefits are among the best I have seen within competing companys which is one of the major reasons I have stayed as long as I have. As a new employee every one is very friendly and they have a fairly indepth training process which is looked at with respect from other companies when your prepared to leave. It is a good job for those with children and they are willing to work around schedules.

Cons

Once abord with the company you begin to see the truth behind the mask, the company is deathly affraid of offending certian minoritys (one in perticular) and goes out of its way to cater to them to the point of making everyone else feel uncomfortable. The company has dramaticly cut senior positions within stores and the few that are remaining are nearly impossable to get. Only those people who walk in the door with a yes sir attitude have a chance to further their carriers, this requires you to put blinders on and completly ignore the truth about whats going on. Management continualy makes promises the cannot keep and then denies that the made them.

Pros

It is an easy job for the most part. I would recommend it for anyone in high school or college. Hours are flexible and the pay is decent if you're young.

Cons

The management does not listen to front line employees who KNOW what's happening in the store. Front line employees, most often, could make better, more informed decisions on how to run the store. I was also talked down to even though I was at least 6 months senior to my supervisor, who was ill-equipped and unfit to even roam the store.

Pros

VERY flexible with scheduling. Most of the executives understand that you have things outside of work to deal with like children and school. The benefits are good for being a retail store. Communication is pretty good but can be worked on a bit. Tons of boards to read along with brochures/pamphlets. The morale is ok and was way better when the store first opened. Target does a lot of fun days (such as cereal day, puzzle day, etc) and you can win cash prizes for different things too. All college students have an option to go on an educational leave of absence when going back to campus (and are able to return within 6 months to work over holidays)

Cons

Not much room for advancement. If you are interested in being an executive, you are not garanteed to be at a store close to where you live. Most of the executives travel AT LEAST 45 minutes to work every day. When a team lead position opens up, there is usually several others being interviewed and it is also posted for external applicants. Compensation could be higher. They do try to keep up with area businesses and stay at a higher rate than most. Recognition and feedback is OK... there could definitely be more. They seem to focus more on opportunities (or things you need to work on doing better). Senior leadership at a store level is not very good. They basically give all their work to people lower on the ladder than them and leave early a lot. They also take lots of long vacations! Fairness and respect needs work also. Executives tend to talk about things they shouldn't, and executives get yelled at and lectured right out in the open where anyone can hear.
