Pros

At a glance: Relocation possible through Target's national reach Competitive wages for new team members Socially progressive company culture Competitive benefits package Flexible Hours The company culture remains a signature strong point of Target. The fast, fun, friendly feelings come to life through its company values. Going to work is generally fun thanks to the team members and company appreciation. As always this will vary depending on your direct leader, their autonomy is a double edged sword --great with an engaged leader and challenging when they struggle.

Cons

At a glance: HR is slow to adopt new practices Limited to no ability to directly influence Short Term Incentives Business Analytics continue to be an opportunity Target's biggest challenges comes from its slow to move human resources department. Within the past 3 years Target abandoned its 100-point review system and adopted a more modern approach. It continues to use annual reviews with 2%-3% raises making staying ina role disadvantageous compared to position hopping. Target attempts to offset this with short term incentives which is highly variable on company performance. Additionally, getting the right business insights is an opportunity. With the limited data scientists available the bandwidth of the data teams are fairly limited. This creates a significant backlog of needs often leaving decisions to be made on best guesses.
