So unfair towards student employees
Pros
Enjoyed talking with customers throughout their check-out experience. I also loved my fellow cashier co-workers, who were always so friendly! We all bonded over similar experiences (going to college, not really knowing what we wanted to do in the future). Also, really enjoyed the way I was able to take on other responsibilities at a smooth pace. Once I got the hang of the cash register, I had begun to work drive-ups. Then, I handled customer service-related stuff, like returns.
Cons
Management was all over the place and never consistent. For the front-end employees who are learning from them, this is very frustrating. They were never consistent in their processes and differed from one another. Additionally, my availability change was denied, even though I had multiple conversations with management & HR to express that I was going back to school. I put this request in a month 1/2 in advance. I was a college student, who just registered for their classes toward the end of the summer. After denying my availability change, they had the audacity to schedule me for every single day I had classes and tried to tell me they had no clue what happened with it.. Odd. Lastly, I called in once when there was a death in my immediate family. When I went to my next shift, I was approached by a few of the front-end managers AT MY REGISTER who said I "shouldn't be calling in." I got really upset and started crying. Later on, she said she told me she had no idea why I called in that day, and ended up telling her why.. but I don't know why she & others had taken it upon themselves to confront me like I was doing something wrong in such a public space. I mentally was over it. I just decided it wasn't the kind of work culture I wanted to be in... Very upsetting because I really enjoyed the community and customers.
