Pros

Pay is standardized, not many surprises. Job Security after 6 months if you make Civil Service. Good number of holidays. Good place to retire from, excellent retirement system.

Cons

Political atmosphere. Very active rumor mill the likes of which you have never seen. The duties you are asked to perform and if they get accomplished can be decided by elected officials who don't care if what they ask for it flat out wrong, you have to be a pro at managing expectations.

Pros

Good co-workers, flexibility, individual offices

Cons

toxic upper management that doesn't appreciate the work that is accomplished. Promotions are based on being friends with management and being a yes person, not knowledge.
