Pros

- Most everyone (including senior management) is happy to meet up for coffee, especially for newbies. There's a supportive networking culture in that way. - Near At&T Park, hip surrounding, dog friendly office, open desk layout - Free cereal - People are generally really friendly and down to hangout after work too! -Lunch and learns from different teams

Cons

- Work happiness really depends on what team you're on - There's a lot of mistrust between and sometimes even within teams. Going through constant reorgs, and favoritism from CEO for management positions to people who are not really qualified for the job - Executive teams sometimes really slow or unresponsive to issues like sexual harrassment or hostile work environments - Our branding is supposed to be bright blue and orange, but the office itself is grey and bleak

Pros

A global community of do-gooders, TechSoup has some of the lowest employee turn over I've seen in the nonprofit (or for-profit) sector. Yes, it can be hard to get things done sometimes and there are frustrations, but that's true anywhere and ultimately I go home every night knowing the work I did all day made a real difference in helping another nonprofit somewhere make the world a better place. It's immensely satisfying. I have been at the organization for more than 8 years and I'm not even close to being unusual there - many people not only stay for a long time, but go away and come back.

Cons

There is not a lot of hands-on management or clear guidance which means you have to be a self starter and be able to work with a lot of ambiguity. Also, because we are a social enterprise, we have a business model which is in the middle of significant change which is freaking people out.
