Pros

- Management allows a lot of flexibility in work hours (provided the work gets done and you average 40 hrs a week) to support work-life balance. - There's a strong focus on helping employees learn and grow. -Unlimited PTO (though suggested to stay around 3-4 weeks per year, and you cannot take more than 2 weeks in a row unless for special circumstances) - HR and the executives listen to and apply employee feedback, at least more than other companies I've worked at. - CEO and execs gave a promise to stay fully remote forever. - Our projects are typically interesting and fun. We're a company that is constantly looking for new ways to innovate technically. - The engineers have some amount of power to help influence what product initiatives we work on. About 15% of the time, product initiatives came from the mind of an engineer. - The engineering teams take pride in their work and their impact on the direction of the company - Our culture is helpful and not competitive - We are a fast-moving team in that we are constantly building new things and are not short on work. But not in the toxic "fast-paced" way where you're encouraged to go into burnout just to achieve your goals. - Our product team works really hard and is great at advocating for the engineers. - My coworkers are wonderful. They're all hard workers you can rely on who are kind, funny, and friendly. They're what really tip the edge for me for rating this company and job at 5 stars.

Cons

- Pay may be less than industry average for some, but I feel that's made up for by being fully remote. - Our hours are tracked using ActivTrak. Managers are trained not to micromanage with this. We also are only evaluated on our rolling 4-week weekly average for productive hours, so it's not a per-day hour requirement. There are many older negative reviews due to ActivTrak's initial implementation, and there definitely was some chaos when it was first implemented. It was not implemented in a way that allowed for flexibility of hours, and the communication around it was not great. But, the execs have listened to feedback and changed how we treat the data from it, and I now don't find it to be on the forefront of my mind as much as at the beginning. Plus, communication from the execs has improved immensely after that period of time. However, I'd still list ActivTrak as a con, as I do still spend more energy than I'd like on thinking about the quantity of my focus time vs the quality of my focus time. - Our industry has evolved a lot recently, which did cause a layoff about a year ago. - We have a lot more performance-based terminations than I've experienced at any other company. So it does lead to some general insecurity from the employees that they may be fired at any moment. - There is just a bit too much AI-hype (treating AI as all-powerful and all-knowing). It doesn't personally bother me too much, but I know some people would like to know that about an employer. - There is not much racial or gender diversity in our engineering department, but being in the minority, I do feel it has been completely inclusive. I haven't felt unequal treatment.

“Not right for everyone” more like “not right for anyone”

Pros

There really are not many expect the middle management trying to do their best for their teams.

Cons

The negative reviews are true. Unless you are willing to drink the koolaid and ignore mistreatment of employees (overworking, micro managing, monitoring, wrongful firing, favoritism, etc) then I encourage you look elsewhere. TA was a great company in the beginning, but once the rose colored, or rather koolaid colored, glasses came off, it is so clear that there is no real support. The exec team ignores their individual contributors, overworks their middle management and looks for shortcuts and ways to save a dollar over the growth and well being of their employees. The head of the company takes company wide meetings to talk about his personal goals or thoughts of the week. Is that the best use of time? The rest of the exec board goes along with whatever he decides that day and doesn’t support or back well thought out and data driven ideas from their teams, but favors reactive decisions leaving everyone in whiplash. The turnover is constant, people are being fired or “let go” secretly leaving teams scrambling, every team is understaffed with no plans to backfill, AI is the only thing they care about and the “transparency” is a brick wall. Not every company is right for everyone. That’s very true and totally understandable. But this company is not right for anyone. Toxic from the top down, which leaves everyone burnt out, confused and afraid. Even speeches from the exec team about “keeping each other accountable” aka - policing eachother (not in the job description) You have seen it constantly in these reviews but the computer monitoring software is actually so wild. It’s not an industry standard, it’s not used to help you and it is there to watch your every move. If that’s cool with you - great! If you don’t like the idea of your worth being how many hours you crunch in a day but rather the impact of your work, then this isn’t the company for you. Please think long and hard about what you value. Wether your in sales, marketing, customer support, engineering, writing, events, people management, hr or any other department, please take pause, do your research, ask about these reviews and their policies before accepting an offer.

Pros

There are (or were) some genuinely amazing people at TA — smart, driven, compassionate teammates who somehow managed to thrive despite the dysfunction. If you’re lucky enough to work with them, those relationships will be the only silver lining. But don’t get too attached — people leave in waves, and for good reason.

Cons

Disclaimer: If you’re wondering why this review sounds like AI, that’s because it is. However, it is truly my opinion and experiences. I’ve heard from several people that the CEO gets HR to cross check emails and Slack messages in order to identify who writes reviews and who gives negative survey feedback. If he suspects you, you will receive a cease-and-desist or a lawsuit. Here you go Rob! Using AI in everything just like you wanted. TechnologyAdvice is the definition of a toxic workplace hiding behind a fake smile. Everything is smoke and mirrors. Leadership preaches “core values” and “culture” while actively making decisions that destroy morale, overburden employees, and erode trust. They’ll talk to you about “work-life balance” and “flexibility” while quietly installing ActiveTrack on your computer to monitor your every move — because nothing says trust like spyware! The environment is childish and cliquey, like working in a high school cafeteria where leadership plays favorites, gossips behind closed doors, and punishes people for not toeing the line. “Forced fun” is a huge part of the culture — think mandatory awkward virtual parties, try-hard Google Meets chats, and cringey Slack celebrations — and you’re expected to perform enthusiasm no matter how overworked or disrespected you feel. If you don’t show up to the pep rallies, expect to be labeled “not a team player.” The CEO makes every decision, no matter how small. There is no empowerment, no delegation, and definitely no trust. Even senior leaders are just figureheads with no real influence — one wrong move and they’re out. He doesn’t care about people, only numbers. The well-being of employees, teams, and even entire companies that he flippantly decides to buy is secondary to whatever data point he’s obsessing over that quarter. He acquires new companies every 6 months only to strip them for parts, gut their teams, and outsource as much as possible to the Philippines. Just check out their careers page! It’s brutal, and it’s happening across the board. Layoffs are constant, and always spun as “restructuring” or “aligning with business goals.” Translation: outsourcing and more work dumped on remaining people with less pay and zero appreciation. Meanwhile, the people making these decisions are insulated from any consequences. So if you’re looking for a place where your hard work will be ignored, your privacy violated, and your mental health slowly eroded in the name of “culture,” TA might just be the perfect fit! But if you value real leadership, transparency, and being treated like a human being — run. Don’t walk. This company doesn’t care about you. It cares about optics, control, and squeezing every ounce of value out of its people before discarding them. You deserve better. Good luck to the incredible people still stuck in the mess. You’re not the problem — TA is.
