Pros

There is a collaborative environment within the accounting group. Coworkers are helpful when orienting a new employee to the internal complexities of the Teck structure. The consolidation group is especially helpful.

Cons

Head office is very large, almost 500 staff in downtown office, on five floors. Do not have many opportunities to meet staff from other departments and interact face to face. Overwhelming amount of emails on a daily basis. High volume of transactions to deal with. Work load can be monotonous. No acknowledgement to staff who work overtime hours (either by way of pay, time off in-lieu, or even a "thank-you").

Pros

Compensation and benefits are well above average. There is a intense drive from CEO on down to improve safety through active awareness and mitigation of hazards. Leadership training and continuous improvement are current focuses with several local successes. Leaders must Walk the Talk and demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership. Promotions are made on merit modified by the need to develop visible minority diversity.

Cons

Work-life balance is talked about as a goal by management but without top-down leadership to enforce this it is an empty phrase. The company's performance is strongly influenced by world commodity prices so there are periods of loose and tight cost control which create great uncertainty in planning.
