Pros

Flexibility is a plus. You can usually take leave any time you like. The insurance is decent. Leave time accrues rapidly. Longevity pay

Cons

Lots of work for very minimal pay, no overtime allowed most of the time and you are forced to flex time off, leaving less time and more work, limited opportunity for advancement

Pros

Once you work for the State, you have the opportunity to apply and transfer to several different departments which gives you some variety.

Cons

Wages are low compared to most companies. With the constant change and restructuring of state departments, job security is decreasing.
