Pros

It is an interesting job with good benefits. I have never worked at a prison before now, and I have learned many, many aspects of an environment that, up until now, I have only heard and read about.

Cons

It does not utilize my education and life experiences. I am 70 years old with a college degree, working alongside 20 years olds, with only a high school education. The worse part is having to work third shift. I cannot sleep in the daytime and am constantly sleepy. The mandatory overtime, working sixteen hour shifts, causes the facility to have a high job turnover rate.

Pros

Benefits. Although insurance benefits not as good as once were. Leave benefits are good.

Cons

Pay....for the actual workers that is. Upper management just keeps making up new positions/titles to put their friends and family in and pay them ridiculous salaries for doing nothing while the real workers down the line don't even get paid the cost of living. It hasn't always been this bad.

Pros

If you find your niche and work well with others you will be able to get a sense of accomplishment with your assigned tasks. In most groups, it is not to hard to get time off without repercussions.

Cons

CIO is a bully. This filters down into management culture. Always being reminded not to have any overtime, yet employees are under the gun to get it done. Training is offered, but it is geared toward either entry level tech positions or project management. Everyone is "valued", meaning average employee, no raise no matter what you achieve.
