Pros

Benefits, holidays, and time off. My coworkers were great, but that varies per office.

Cons

The pay is way too low for the amount of stress the position causes. Dealing with unemployment is supposed to be off limits, but career specialists did the unemployment departments dirty work every single day, picking up their slack and handling the upset customers, even when we had no ability to help them resolve their issues. Every person had a secondary assignment in addition to serving all walk-ins, and some are extensive in workload. I never received a handbook or guidelines for my position, because none exist. Yet you are held to performance indicators that are only sort of explained in the reviews that dictate your raises. Overall, the pay is unfair enough in the economic climate as it is. The added stress of government work does not make this position near as fulfilling as it could be.

Pros

-management is relaxed (dependent on your supervisor) -good retirement match -opportunity to work from home -good work-life balance -job security (really hard to get fired here)

Cons

-overload competent employees with work from lazier ones -extremely underpaid for market value and work load -constant workplace drama due to miscommunications between departments -outdated systems and procedures that higher management refuses to improve -If working in the office, after paying for gas and other expenses, you are essentially paying the State to work there -hard to advance positions unless you know someone

Pros

The programs are the newest versions We are pushed to learn as much or as little as we want

Cons

The Departments all act as separate entities. Time moves super slow.
