Pros

Excellent health benefits, great co-workers, good supervisors, excellent schedule with most holidays off, 1 hour lunch, mostly free range to work as you please as long as you can keep your caseload under control

Cons

Very stressful, caseload expectations are difficult to handle with little to no help depending on the unit you're in. Senior Mgmt is good, they have a good open door policy, but given it is a Govt job, suggestions for change are largely ignored due to it more or less taking an act of Congress, DDS, or a Commissioner to make any true impacting changes. Often changes do come through that make your job more difficult. And even if these changes fail to achieve whatever goal DDS wanted, they're glacially slow to reverse the policy or alter it. There is very limited opportunity to advance, promotions are based on seniority rather then merit, and it shows is come areas.

Pros

Friendly staff, clear expectations, and a passionate workforce are hallmarks of the office.

Cons

not exactly a fun workplace, but one where everyone gets along. Its a state agency, so culture is a firmly rooted on the traditional corporate environment. That being said, opportunities for advancement are very real. Tennessee is an improving and dynamic government.

Pros

Good people. Job stability. Good benefits. Generous annual leave and sick days.

Cons

Low pay. "Everybody gets a trophy" mentality. Creative thinkers and hard workers need not apply.
