Pros

- Good benefits - Relaxed environment - All state holidays off - Adequate parking - Secure environment - 37.5 hour work week - No mandatory overtime

Cons

- Compensation is insulting - Lack of focus is ridiculous - Allowance of incompetent employees to continue to work at a level lower than competent staff simply because of the civil versus executive divide is ludicrous, If an employee does not perform, there should be consequences...not a reduction in their work load. That's encouraging their laziness. - Civil service employees truly are Lazy and milk the system because they can get away with it. - Problems with contractors are never resolved even though contractors are bound to comply via their contract - Politics dictate all activities from business relationships down to team-building activities.

Pros

Working for the State of Tennessee is a great opportunity, I would suggest that anyone take some time as a civil servant.

Cons

We have recieved our first raise of 1.6% since July of 2007, It is unfortunate that the pay does not increase with inflation.

Pros

The best things about working for the State of Tennessee are the benefits and the hours. In my department, the Comproller of the Treasury, the people were also a big plus.

Cons

The biggest cons is the base compensation (you have to count benefits too) and the respect you get from people outside of the state. People always look down on state employees.
