Pros

Constant stream of work. There's never a dull / boring moment. The days often fly by. Weekends, holidays, annual and sick leave. Stable career. Great benefits / retirement, etc.

Cons

Let me first say this... I love my job and certainly don't mean for any of this to be offensive or cause a backlash on me. With that said; Communication can be a bit lacking, but lately I've definitely seen this improving. Very VERY few tools to do your job. Often find that employees have to supply their own tools to get the job done. Stress can often be pretty high. Old computer equipment. We used to use flip phones for a long time. We've recently been given iPhone 6s's though! They are great!

Pros

People can work for the State of Tennessee at the same time but in different departments and have very divergent experiences. The pay is getting better, but still not on par with the private sector. But, the work week is 37.5 hours, 11 state and federal holidays and earn a minimum of1 vacation day per month. Unused days just keep on rolling over. Gov. Haslam's customer focused government effort is paying some dividends. But, in a work-force of over 40,000, it is impossible to get everyone on board.

Cons

Low pay. Sometimes odd hiring rules.
