Be careful here...comply, don't question authority!

Pros

To learn the inside view on the very hot data and analytics industry.

Cons

People are chess pieces to be moved around. If you are vocal and question leadership, you are pegged as a problem (have seen it happen to so many people). Management consistently has a 'we know something you don't know' practice, which breeds a rumor mill that is out of control...and then big changes are exploded on the company from Director down with no notice. It's just how things are done, so people are always waiting for the next shoe to drop. Which tends to be bad for those who haven't been brow-beaten into submission. Large layoffs common, like many big companies. There are some wonderful people here, but just be very careful and compliant before coming to this company. Also, huge double standards from executive LT to rank and staff. (Example: the CEO says he doesn't believe in a virtual model and wants everyone in the office...but he lives in Utah and works remotely from there. There are many examples--travel budgets cut for everyone else, but in same breath LT announces European tour for themselves.) Promotions and advancement from within are very rare.

Pros

Used to be a very good. There are still a few good, smart people around.

Cons

If you care about your career stay away. Only work for them if no other options. Learn as much as you can while collecting a paycheck and leave as soon as you can. There are RIF’s all the time.

Smart People- Company In Positive Transition

Pros

The company is serious about the transition. Much like other companies, they know where they want to go. Messaging from management is consistent and product management has a clear path to future. The company also doesn' t have a ton of egos. When you do talk to an 'old timer', they really have been witness to industry trends and get and understand the cloud. So haven't met someone who hasn't been on board with the message around Teradata everywhere (including cloud). At least not in engineering. Teams are also highly collaborative with many teams either built from the ground up as Dev/Ops or transitioning to same. The environment is respectful. There is a conscious decision to borrow 'only good parts' of other tech companies as teams build their own identity and culture.

Cons

Some of the legacy processes are a bit wonky. But you put up with them because the front end engineering work is really interesting and challenging.
