Great Experience and Amazing Team

I worked for Terracon in the Raleigh, NC office for just over 5 years. During my time with the company, I worked as a Field and Staff Geologist. The Raleigh office has a great team and work environment; it was easy for me to count on my other coworkers when I had a question or needed advice. It was important for me that I had great work relationships with all of my coworkers, and many of those former coworkers have become good friends. Terracon presented many opportunities for career advancement, from conferences, meetings, to taking the initiative on new projects. I really enjoyed the amount of involvement between the senior level and junior level staff, as mentoring is a key component of the success of the company. Lastly, as our environmental department grew in the Raleigh office, the department and office managers were very helpful and willing to explore options on obtaining new equipment and methods to help complete jobs more safely and efficiently.

Cons

As with many consulting-based positions, deadlines can creep up and schedules may shift with last minute projects. From my experience, starting at the company as a Field Geologist, I spent a lot of time in the field, but with experience and time I started to have a more balanced work-life schedule. I think it is important for the field employee(s) to have options for rotating schedules for longer-term field projects (i.e. months).

Pros

Very supportive office with meeting your career goals while maintaining a work/personal life balance. Safety culture has increased significantly since I started here. Great bonuses and benefits.

Cons

Pre-covid, summer time can wear people out. Hard to "rotate" employees on long-term or out of town jobs, and so there was less of a work/life balance.

- Local offices so you are recognized for your good works while being supported by a national company - Amazing benefits - Recieve monetary rewards by doing simple tasks such as going to an annual physical at your doctors - People are amazing to work with. - Fun company events - Ability to grow professionally - Great at open communication, especially with leaders. Managers all have had leadership training. - Updated technology to make job much easier and reliable. - Flexible working hours

Cons

-Depending on the position, you are not able to work remote -PTO hours are limited, but flexible working hours is enforced so it makes up for it.
