Pros

The university is generally supportive in giving practical experience for academics and students. Schedules can be flexible and the research environment is encouraging.

Cons

There is very poor communication and too many clerical errors. Mistakes over funding or errors in databases and registration systems can take several months to fix, if they're ever fixed at all. There were several times where I had to go between offices and talk to office staff in different departments to get a payroll mistake or registration error fixed. For one instance of getting funding, I filed paperwork in the beginning of the Fall semester. The paperwork was lost (without notifying me of the mistake), so I re-filed in January when I noticed the funds weren't going through. It is now May, and I am still sending paperwork in to get reimbursement. In my experience, this is typical of Texas State. A lot of the technology is also insufficient or outdated. E.g., 170 mb for e-mail, including sent, drafts, and trash.

Pros

Texas State University provides a good balance of work/life. Also they encourage skills improvement and allow you to pursue any addition training such as additional degrees.

Cons

Just like a lot of organizations, it's slow to change. Also promotion/lateral movements through out the university is also slow sometimes. A lot of focus is on faculty, so staff sometimes get put on the back burner.
